What a feature clip is
A feature clip shows one thing. A new filter, a faster export, a redesigned settings page. It opens on the result, shows the two or three clicks that get there, and ends. Most run under a minute, and plenty work well at fifteen seconds. They go into release notes, changelog posts, launch emails, social feeds and in-app announcements.
Clips in batches
Teams that ship often tend to order clips in batches: one recording session covering every feature in a release, cut into a set of short clips that share the same opening, captions and end card. Batches keep the look consistent across a launch and are faster to brief than one-off clips.
Made to work without sound
Feature clips are often watched muted, in a feed or inside the product. So the clip has to make sense with the sound off. We use short on-screen labels, a zoom on the change, and captions if there is a voice. Music is optional and kept low.
Loops and GIF-style clips
For in-app tips and help articles, a short silent loop is often better than a full video. We can deliver an MP4 that loops cleanly, plus a lighter animated file for places that only accept images. Say where each clip will appear so the files are sized right.
| Use | Typical length | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Release notes and changelog | 15 to 45 seconds | 16:9 |
| Social launch post | 15 to 60 seconds | 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16 |
| In-app tip or tooltip | 5 to 15 seconds, looped | Sized to the space in your app |
| Launch email | Still image linking to a short clip | 16:9 thumbnail |
Platform limits on length and format change from time to time, so we check the current ones when we deliver.
Questions
Can you cut clips from a longer demo we already have?
Yes. Send the demo and a list of the features you want pulled out. Each clip gets its own opening and end card so it stands on its own.
Can the clip show a feature that isn't released yet?
Yes, if you can record it in a staging or beta build. We'll keep the files private until your launch date.
